<< I had the same problem with FireFox when I tried to download it, the first time it worked perfectly, but then on another Mac the file would not mount no matter how many times I downloaded it. I then used the download from the first Mac on disk and did it that way, but still have not idea why the multiple downloads did not work.

I wanted to evangelize the wonderful world of FireFox for him, & I went to their site & downloaded a file that when all was said and done showed up in the Apps folder as "FireFox version.whatever". I happily put it in the dock, but when he or I clicked on it later, there was no FF app launched. I eventually noticed that there was an extra drive icon on the desktop. It seems that this was the disk image that I put in the Dock! Anyway, to make a long story short, we copied the app from the image to the Dock, got rid of the .dmg, & everything worked fine. Don't know if this was your problem, or it FF still labels their .dmg files like that.
