Did you ever do the firmware upgrade before installing OSX?
And IMPORTANT: before doing the firmware upgrade, run the the little program "DIMM First Aid" (google it). It checks whether your RAM lives up to OSX's much stricter specifications, because if they don't the firmware upgrade will DISABLE them - leaving them inaccesible to OS9 also!

Or could it be that your 8 gig partition is full?

Concerning System 9: you can NOT just copy a System Folder installed on one machine over to another, and expect it to work. System 9 is installing different recources on all Mac models, depending on their hardware and so forth (as opposed to OSX which I understand is allways a full install). You need to get an OS 9.x installer CD and do the installation on your current machine

Good luck. My bet is that sub-standard RAM is the source of your problems
