The DVD drive in the B&W right now is an Apple brand 6X max DVD, which came with the daughter card I bought on e-Bay.

Mine too. Bought it on LEM Swap tho. :)

When I put a DVD movie disk in the drive, DVD Player starts but then shows an error message:

 There was an initialization error
A valid video device could not be found for playback. [-70017]

I get that error on some discs from QuickTime Player also.

Try VLC.

Ment "DVD Player", not QuickTime Player.

hum. Perhaps the problem is deeper....

My CD-Data and DVD-Data discs all play fine - mpegs.

My (finalized) DVD+R discs won't play in DVD Player or QT P, but play fine in VLC.

I thought commercial DVDs are ok. But apparently... MIB II won't play at all. But three other commercial DVDs I've tried work fine!

Do a search for "play dvd" on Apple's forums. There are a lot of people having problems playing DVDs since going to Tiger. :(

Could Apple have hit us with some selective/buggy DRM in the last few updates?
