Been there, done that.. get yourself a pci ide card and your problems shouls
be solved.. I found that foe whatever reason.. mac osx doesn't like booting
drives (other than cd) off of the ultra ata port, and also doesn't like it
mixing drives and cd on the ultra ata either..

AT least you got the processor to run at 840.. my attempt was with a
pre-production board and after doing everything you did, the board only seen
the processor as a 550.. what a (explitif here)..

Word of wise.. if you decide to replace the ide connector.. make sure you
use a 15 watt iron.. I used a 40 watt iron and burnt traces off.. screwing
the port for good.. get an ultra ata pci card and you'll be fine..

Subject: Re: [G] Using Digital Audio processor in Gigabit Ethernet

Well, I just tried using my QS933 (7455) in my Sawtooth. First, I
removed the IDE connector with wire cutters. Then, I hooked up a 12v wire
using a
molex connector and the other end secured with a screw to the 4th mount
point.
I used the QS heatsink with the case open about 45 degrees. My bus was
120MHz, and the multiplier on the card is 7x to run the processor at 840MHz.

The machine booted a few times, but it was quirky. One time, my slave
drive was not recognized. It hung on boot a few times. Now, it just stays
at
the gray screen with the apple and the spinning icon. It even does it when
using the original processor. Not sure if I caused a short somewhere and
damaged
the motherboard. But currently, my machine will not boot Mac OS X. Linux,
however works fine (it is on a SCSI drive on a SCSI card. Linux did report
some DMA problems, and perhaps ATA problems during bootup once. So, Im a
bit
confused at the moment.

<< Chris,

Here is the article, and it is the 12V that you need to feed (I did
that on a 933 QS in a DA mod). It also talks about the IDE removal.
