You could try a new battery.  Your old one may be getting funkey.   Or just pull
your current battery for 5 minutes which would reset the nvram.  It is possible
to turn off the on-board video with firmware on the 
beige, and if this accidentally happened somehow, resetting the nvram would fix
it.  

If you have a voltmeter, the battery should measure about 3. 6 volts , if I
remember correctly.  Replace it if it doesn't.  If you are not sure, replace it
anyway just to make sure.
