Think about it. If Apple did allow the new operating system to be
installed on a non-firewire machine, that would really tick off
traditional Mac users who were omitted from the upgrade path.

The Q&A also says "This is simply a PC designed to comply with the
specs of the Intel test machine created for Apple to test their new
X86 port of OS X." Being without Firewire doesn't seem very much
to spec.
Note that there isn't a single firewire port nor DVI port, plus
still has vga. This wouldn't be a very desirable Mac of today's
standards for sure. The Q & A details on the page clear things up a
bit on the OSX install, although interesting that it says OSX X86
pre-installed.
