Hello G-list First, thanks for any help anyone here can provide. This is my first post to this list, although I posted to quadlist a few years ago.
Recently, I bought a 400mhz B&W G3 512mg 10g from Mac of all Trades. I put a Pioneer super drive in it installed OSX Tiger (10.4.3) First I partitioned the hard drive into 2 gigs for OS 9.2 and the rest for OSX. The installation proceeded without a hitch until the reboot, when the machine stalled on the gray page with the apple in the middle and the spinning wheel. Not knowing what else to do, I wiped the disc and reinstalled everything, producing the samne result. Today I held down control-V during the boot and discovered that when the boot process gets to Extension Com.apple.driver.CMD646ATA it stalls Then it asks for Extension Com.apple.driver.Pioneer.SuperDrive Which is followed by 'waiting for root device,' and that phrase repeats itself for as long as I wait to force a reboot into OS9 The repeated requests for root device seem to correspond to the spinning wheel It could have something to do with the SuperDrive not being the installed drive in the B&W, but it did allow me to install OSX using that same drive from the Apple installation DVD. When it finished, the message appeared "the installation was successful" Then it rebooted and couldn't get past identifying the DVD drive. Has anyone experienced anything like this or know of any workarounds? Thanks gary long -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
