geesh guys, you'd think that the lives of people are at risk without the
knowledge of what apple is going to do. it isn't gonna do any good to whine,
cry, bitch, or anything else. apple isn't gonna change their plans, nor are
they gonna let you in on their secret.
one way to tell if a product is on its way to end of life is to see if they
are still selling the product you want without a large delay in delivery. if
its just a day or a few days, i'd probably be guessing right that they will
not be closing that product line out right away. if its a week or more...
get ready for something new.
if you and your clients can wait until the 11, just over a week from now,
then you will know what everyone else is wanting to know as to what the
cards are that apple computer is keeping close to their vest.
i don't know that any other computer company (sony, dell, toshiba, gateway
etc) tosses information out to the public months in advance (short of ms for
their longhorn/vista... but who knows when it will ever be released) and for
the xbox 360.
i realize it doesn't make things any easier for your job, but then again, i
doubt they will be changing their whole product line (top to bottom) on
january 12 and be selling the new product that date. they will release the
info that they deem is necessary. they have already stated that the product
line would be changed over to intel chips by the end of 2007. sounds like
they provided information at that time. if they are early with some
products, then good for them!
rumours have it as imac/ibook line will be first for a change over, but in
the past when they have announced replacement products, the unit is normally
not available for sale (short of the iPods) before a month or two after the
announcement.
but then again, you as a consultant, don't know anything more or less than
any other consultant as to the plans of the release of apples new products.
as for the ability to hack osx to windows machines or windows to macs, who
knows for sure what the actual status of that will be. sure, there have been
people who have tossed the 10.5 betas (legally owned or illegal owned
copies) onto windows machines and probably people who spent the money to get
apple to loan them a g5 with intel inside probably have done the same thing.
you will just have to tell your clients you (nor anyone else) will know for
sure until the afternoon of january 11, 2006 as to what apple has planned.
until then, take your valium or prozac and chill...
