Does the Sawtooth use an audio-out cable for the optical drive?

While I do not have a sawtooth, I have Macs on both sides (beige G3,
Digital Audio) and they do not use the audio out cable on CD/dvd
drives. Based upon my experiences with Macs and pcs, I am guessing that
most modern computers do not rely on the audio out from these drives.
