I had a DVD laying there also so I stuck that in to see what it would do. To my surprise it not only recognized the disc and mounted it as it should, the DVD player app kicked in and it started playing the movie! I never imagined one could play a DVD using USB 1.x and just figured it would be too slow. I noticed a couple of bumps as I was watching, but for the most part it played just fine. So thanks Bruce, I can see this will be a handy little thing to have around!

That's cool! I didn't know that would work, either.

I have accomplished the same feat using a couple of different dvd rom / cdrw combo drives from different laptops that were left over from upgrades. there are a lot of usb to Ide adapters floating around on ebay right now that I have been experimenting with for external solutions on my MDDP .
