For OS X newbies I highly recommend "The Mac OS X conversion kit: 9 to 10 side by side," by Scott Kelby and published by Peachpit Press. The edition I have (2003) covers Jaguar, but there may be other editions.
As the title suggests, the book displays screen shots of various OS functions, the OS 9 version on the left-hand page and the OS X version on the right.
