About a week ago I posted problems trying to install 10.3 on a B & W rev 1.

Tried all posted suggestions, still NO GO!!

Other things done in this endless process:

hit CUDA numerous times
removed PRAM battery
reset the Open Firmware
replaced the G3 ribbon cable a new ATA 133 ribbon cable, then put original
back
checked that target disk is set to Master
unset all jumpers (installer would not see the disk in this mode)
switched from ADB keyboard to USB and then back to ADB

Finally SUCCESS, at least for today.

First, I put this hard drive in my B & W rev 2 and installed OX 10.3. And
upgraded to 10.3.9 with no problems. However, transplanting this pristine
install into the rev 1 produced the same no boot/kernal panic problem as before.

Still suspecting RAM I tested all RAM modules using MAXpowr's Gauge PRO
through more than 1200 iterations using the "sandwich method" --all passed.

FINALLY the work around:
I switched the ATA buses in the B & W rev 1. I put the hard drive on the
former optical drive bus.

System Profiler shows:
"ATA Bus
name: ATA-3 bus"
for the hard drive

"ATA Bus
name: pci-ata"
for the DVD-ROM and Zip drive

Now the hard drive boots into 10.3.9 without issue and CD's and Zips mount
OK. The only problem I found is that it takes about 5 minutes to boot from the
Panther install CD and the OS 9.1 install CD takes about a minute or two less.

Has anyone else done this or know of any other problems I may find with this
switched bus arrangement?

I'll probably start looking for a rev 2 board. Until I find an affordable one
I plan to use this configuration.

Thanks --glen
