The above letter was concerning an answer to “Richard

in San Diego” about problems opening OSX on a G3/300,

and the answer from Santa addressed the 8 GB install

partition. Two points re this and other letters on

the subject:

1. The early G3 B&W ("Blue and White" for those who

don't know)and the late G3 Beige BOTH came in a

G3/300. Different buses, etc. but the same speed CPU

chip. The same chip, I believe. I have owned both

models.

2. It has been said that the 8 MB install partition

only applies the Rev. 1 firmware on the Beige G3

IDE/ATA drives. Just to be safe it might be a good

policy on any G3 Beige. The G3 Beige Desktop I

currently have running is on all SCSI so no prob. The

B&W was more developed and does not have the problem,

though the B&W Rev. 1 IDE was still buggy. Juan’s

machines should be fine with their partitions. And

although they didn't come with OS X, they're

compatible according to Apple, so Yes they are "OS X

native".

Richard’s machine we still don’t know about the

partition. I don’t think he said what color it was.

Good on ya –

iirc Richard's G3 is a Beige.

I have never read/heard about 8Gb partition
applying only to rev 1 beige. I have read/heard
that rev 1 beiges do not suppoort master/slave
IDE drives. Is this what you are referring to?
