This is true. Appleworks came pre-installed on this iBook. I took
it off, but it's on the re-store disks.

I don't think you should have to buy AppleWorks.
Did your copy of Panther come with Classic (OS 9) install discs? If
so, there should be a copy of AppleWorks for OS 9 on one of those
discs.
Install that. Once installed, you can use Apple's website to freely
update it to the OS X version.
