Nope, so long as your RAM is supported by the machine (Up to 256MB on double sided DIMMs, only 128MB on single sided DIMMs), it's fine to install as much as you want at any time. AFAIK, with the later PMU-based machines, the memory controller drops to the timings of the slowest RAM, that might be the same with older machines like the Yikes! and Yosemite but I read somewhere that the Grackle/MPC106 doesn't like CAS2 RAM and will always run at CAS3 anyway at 83 or 100MHz (though that might not be true)...
