Does Apple have an equivalent to the Windows world systems running Microsoft's Media Center PC? Or can this be achived by third party hardware/software?
Apple doesn't have it yet (Front Row is a start), but it's certainly doable with third-party hardware and software. Various commercial pieces are there, like EyeTV <http://tinyurl.com/85dyz>
MythTV is an OSS front end to a lot of the various bits and pieces, and there's an OS X port of the project, I believe. <http:// www.mythtv.info/moin.cgi/MythOnMacOsx>
Nice, once it's running, but it's 'build it yourself' kind of like ordering a car mail order and having a dump truck deposit several tons of iron and aluminium ore in your front yard in response.
