Id like to point out that I receive a lot of fake emails trying to get
me to give out my eBay and PayPal name and login.
<snip>
And eBay doesn't seem to care! Its taking me way too long right now to
use eBays website to report such an email, IMO a link should be directly
on the home page. In fact, the website just sends you in circles!
Forward such emails to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Forward PayPal scams to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] If you're using an email client that allows it,
turn on verbose so that all the headers and codes will be forwarded.
In Eudora, click the "Blah, blah, blah" button at the upper left of
the email before selecting "forward" in the menu.
They claim that they investigate the sources of these scams. I have
no knowledge as to the truth of that claim either way.
Back in the good old days, we traded computer gear on
comp.sys.mac.wanted, which is a news group. If someone was
dishonest, we posted about it in the news group. If there was
disagreement, everyone got their say out where all could see it. If
someone posted crap for sale, it was easy to post a follow up message
warning others off. None of these things is possible on Ebay. Yet,
they claim that they're so much safer than other ways of exchanging
goods.
The only problem with the comp.sys.mac.wanted news group these days
is that noone is reading it any more. All the traffic has moved to
Ebay. It's sad. The newsgroups are free and it's easy to post a WTB
(want to buy) that will actually get read. I doubt that anyone ever
looks at Ebays "Want it Now" postings.
The Swap List here is a decent substitute, but it still doesn't ahve
the traffic that comp.sys.mac.wanted had, and, of course, one is not
allowed to post comments there.
