Wow, and not just any old hum, either. According to a review of the
keyboard:

I hail from Maine, where mosquitos are so numerous, they frequently blot out
the sun. If there's a worse attribute for a keyboard to have than "sounding
a bit like a hungry mosquito," I don't want to know what it is. @_@

Besides which, they've obviously taken the lazy way out here by making the
keys transparent and the lettering opaque, not to mention lighting up the
*entire* keyboard. The proper way to engineer this, of course, would be to
make the keys opaque and the _lettering_ transparent. I think that that
method provides for a much better contrast.

So, if I felt absolutely compelled to buy a backlit keyboard, this is the
one I would buy:

The diamond plate metal backing speaks volumes of the build quality, not to
mention the LED for _each individual key_ (as well as the USB connector).
And, yes, it will work in OS 9 and X, but you will lose some functionality.
You check that out here:

As much as I like that keyboard, though, the inveterate cheapskate in me
prompts another suggestion: rather than blowing buckz on a new keyboard, why
not get one of these:

or

These two models are lightweight LED headlamps that also offer a red LED
option to help save your night vision. If all you need to do is simply
light up the keyboard (i.e white light is just fine), most sporting goods
stores should stock LED headlamps. With this option, you would not only
save $50 or so, but you'd also be able to use *any* keyboard you want
(including the one you already have!) in a low-light setting.

Best,

James Fraser
