My ibook screen started cutting out on me to black (sometimes just the white
screen backlight too) or freezes with a faint screen image with lines all
through it and a echo or double image. Cursor doesn't move as if it is just a
frozen video frame of the desktop. Using the video mirroring adapter to a VGA
monitor shows the exact same effect when it occurs so it's not just the ibook
screen itself. Once it goes I can not get it back to normal without a reboot,
and even that doesn't always work.

If I boot it and type gently and do not move the screen or pick up the ibook it
may work for quite a while. But it has also gone south just sitting there while
booted in target mode. It does not appear to be hard drive related as I could
still access the drive from another computer after the screen froze all
wacked-out.

I'm out of warranty and have been told by other mac using associates that it's
not worth the expense to fix and to just get a new laptop or notebook.

It's an awkward time to be making a decision on which book to buy. Buy
something that will maybe be obsolete (or at least unsupported) faster than
anyone thinks or the 1st generation intels that may not quite be ready for
prime-time.

Anybody have luck fixing the screen symtoms as stated above? Seems like real
intricate wiring if it passes through that tiny hinge.

Thanks,

AB
