I have an external Zip 100 in perfect shape, but it was daisy chained
on my old Mac to a SCZI port & they told me at the electronic store
(Fry's) that there was no kind of connector that would allow you to
connect a SCZI device to a USB hub or port. Any help or suggestions
would be much appreciated. I have a lot of info & pictures on my Zip
100 discs & would love to be able to use them. I know that I can play my 100s on the 250 or 750 IF I could install one. I suppose I could buy
another
larger capacity external one, but don't want to go that route.

You could continue to use your external Zip 100 by installing a PCI
SCZI card in your Blue & White G3 (now G4).

But for a long range strategy, how do you back up your Zip disks?
... Also, I would question whether the Zip drive is
robust enough for the long term.

I had the same problem - in spite of having a scsi card on my QS (but the cabling is not quite right for the zip to daisy chain off the scsi array I have connected. Been meaning to sort this out as I miss my zips). What I have found is that I have used my USB flash sticks for temporary and even easier transportable storage and these hold what many 100MB zips combined do. But it is a different experience and not as convenient, this latter will surprise almost every one I am sure.

When I have a fair sized job, I find it satisfying to use the zips to store the different parts of the job as backup, constantly being popped in as I develop. They act like a nice visual filing system too simply because they have labels! And I like the feel of them, chunky solid, dense. They pop in to the machine satisfyingly, clunk! Another thing. If you have a lot of them, you can leave them (or forget to bring them to the office) for a while as insurance in case the office disappears or has a big disaster. A flash stick which hold much more is not so convenient and economically suited for this. Floppies, of course, have some of the same convenience but they are less stable, feel more flimsy and hold altogether too little. 100MB zips are a very nice useful chunk!

Al is probably right, though I have had no trouble with them (compared to my QS software troubles messing up the ATA HD), they are great for temporary use.

Just wanted to put in a good word for these poor things.

BTW, I think there are USB zip drives, and actual zips in any collection will then be useable... they would be very cheap indeed these days, probably cheaper than a suitable scsi card or (in my peculiar case, a cable)
