Call for Contribution of Content to The
Syriac Digital Library
Beth Mardutho: The Syriac Institute is building
content for its Syriac Digital Library Project. The library primarily contains
out-of-copyright material, and some copyrighted material when permission can be
obtained. Scholars who published journal articles (or books that are now out of
print) may submit their publications for inclusion in The Syriac Digital
Library. The library will be made available on the Internet.
We are interested in works on Syriac studies and
related fields.
How to submit publications for Inclusion in
The Syriac Digital Library?
1. Obtaining Permission from the
original publisher:
a) In the case of journal articles, ask the
editor/publisher of the journal for permission to include your paper in The
Syriac Digital Library. Explain that The Syriac Digital Library is a project of
The Syriac Institute, a non-profit organization. You will find that post editors
will be positive.
b) In the case of out-of-print books: if you are
the copyright holder, then you need not take any steps. If you assigned the
copyright to your publisher, ask the publisher to reverse the rights back to
you. Note that in most cases publishers cannot deny you the copyright and at the
same time not reprint your book. (Usually, there is a clause in your
contract which states that after some time of you requesting the publisher
to reprint the book, if the publisher fails to do so the rights automatically
revert back to you.)
2. Download, print and sign the
Statement of Understanding from http://www.bethmardutho.org/ebetharke/eBethArkeArticlePermissionContract.pdf.
Here, you are simply giving The Syriac Digital Library a non-exclusive
permission to include your work in the library, and telling us that you did
obtain permission from the original publisher if necessary. You are not giving
us any copyright rights in this agreement (you keep the copyright).
3. Send us the signed Statement of
Understanding, and a copy of the off-print (in the case of an article) or a copy
of the book to the following address:

Syriac Digital Library Project
46 Orris Ave.
Piscataway, NJ 08854 USA
Unless you indicate otherwise, we will not return
the material.
