In an article 'Geoarchaeology of the Qumran archaeological site, Israel' in
Focus on Geography VOl 48:1 June 2004, it is written - "Further up the canyon
, a small stone dam was constructed and a narrow channel was cut to direct the
runoff from the winter rains into the Q aqueduct system". No further
explanation is given, nor are photos published, though a small scale plan is
http://uhaweb.hartford.edu/QUMRAN/images/fullmap.pdf . Was a more detailed
discussion with photos, elevations, explanations etc ever published? Or can
anyone supply such? How did this dam operate? Was it the primary or a secondary
source of water? This 'dam' does not seem to be mentioned by Ilan and Amit in
their article on the Qumran aqueduct in Aqueducts of Israel nor appear on
their plan.
