So what? Provide a list: OS X supports X, Y, and Z, period. Be
explicit - if you put unsupported hardware into the mix, then you
don't get free support from Apple. Done. Problem solved.

The conflict BS is due to MS' design. OS X does not have that problem.

Apple could create a certification program, just like Intel and MS
have. The vendor pays to have the company certify their product and
driver. It would help, of course, if Apple did it intelligently and
up to their normal high standards so we DONT get innundated with
garbage.

Then, I'm sorry, you just haven't done much wrt hardware. Heck,
during my entire time with the classic Mac OS, I *never* had a Mac
that used just Apple's hard disk driver. I always had hard drives
that Apple didn't support, so I used products like HDTK -- which,
btw, was *faster* and *more stable* than Apple's driver. And hard
drives were just the beginning.

So stay there. Noone is forcing you to go 3rd party.

Nothing some krylon and a few stickers can't fix. :)
