The scenario I described is completely consistent with out legal system and there are a variety of other ways the EFI system could be compromised from doing what its owner wants. The computer is treacherous because it no longer obeys the wishes of its owner. Apple did not have to pick motherboards that were based on trecherous computing, but chose to do so. The point is that this system could become unusable at any time Apple pushed an update out for EFI. Why would anyone buy a system that can be remotely turned off at the whim of some third party? Most people do not realize that threat. But, it certainly is there.
