This is going to be more and more common. 10.4 changed a very great deal 'under the hood' in OS X from 10.3, and 10.5 did more than that. Stuff marked 10.4 or higher appeared almost immediately after the release of 10.4. 10.4 is also faster than 10.3 on all but the very lowest end systems (and then really only when they're RAM starved).
