I have tried running Software Update several times. I keep getting
the same error message whether I am selecting onle the 10.5.5 update
or all available updates.

The update "Mac OS X Update" can't be saved.
You do not have appropriate access privileges.
The installer package has been moved to the Trash.
To try again, open the package from the Finder.

To add insult to injury the Trash is empty. However, the error message
occurs almost immediately before one could expect the download to
occur. At least I did not waste my time downloading it through
Software Update. (As i type, I am downloading the 10.5.5 Combo
updater from the support site).

I would prefer to do this through Software Update as I have in the
past. As expected, Repairing Permissions was useless but I thought I
would try anyhow.

Any suggestions?

Before I get into the machine specifics I will admit I am a little
masochistic. I am running Leopard and have been since 10.5.0 or
maybe 10.5.1 on a Sawtooth G4.
My boot disk is an external firewire drive and 10.5 was installed by
connecting the external drive to an iBook G4 that met the Leopard
requirements. All subsequent upgrades have been through Software
Update on the Sawtooth. I normally download Leopard updates to this
machines before I install on our Ibook G4, and MacBook Pro. I do have
a current backup through SuperDuper but would expect it to have the
same problems since it is synced every 2-3 days automatically. Also,
I have the family pack so this copy is fully legal even if not on
Apple supported hardware for this OS.

Sawtooth G4
450 mhz G4
512 MB Ram (soon to be 1 GB)
250 GB External Firewire Drive
   237.74 GB capacity after formatting
    72.75 GB available

Thanks - Marty
