Hi all, I know there are some networking gurus on this list - perhaps what I am about to explain sounds familiar and you can point me or my helper in the right direction. I'm on sabbatical so my student administrator assistant is in charge of the music lab (a cluster of G5s running the same software, recently upgraded to Leopard 10.5.4). Here's the deal: all stations have two accounts: administrator and "student". Obviously all students log in as "student". All the student accounts have the same password, and are shared, i.e. file sharing is a normal daily operation. A student on station 2 can, in the Finder, go to Go>connect to server>list of .local stations and choose which station volume they wish to mount. the password is asked for to connect to Station X, and they type in the common password.
Recently my helper notified me of the following: (quote) > The lab is settling down and mostly working now. However, when students try to > connect to another station, it says that "xxxxx" (the password) is an invalid > password. Is > there a new password that I'm aware of, or is something else wrong? I had her log in as administrator and re-enter/refresh the student password on the ailing stations but that did not seem to work (according to a follow-up). Any pointers I can share from a distance for my helper to try?
