Anne, it can help to compare the info you put in your signature below  
with the info at lowendmac's web site beginning at this page which  
puts things in perspective.  You seem to have the latest Penryn (April  
2008) version:

Have you sorted out whether your parent's iMac has an optical drive  
that will read DVDs?  You are looking for something in the profiles  
info that says DVD, not just CD-RW.
