I tried the process outlined in the link you provided. It keeps
coming back with the following message:
"unknown special file or file system"
I tried variations on the commands without success.
Now the G3 won't complete boot-up. It starts normally, but before the
Apple logo screen, with the spinning widget, is replaced, the spinnert
stops and the following message prints across the top of the screen:
"sh -2.05a# Ethernet (BMac): Link up at 100 Mbps- half duplex"
If the Ethernet cable is disconnected, the message simply says "link
down" at the end. So it is trying to read the link.
But is my attemplt to change the admin pwd related to this message, or
has something gone sour in the computer?

I may have to start watching for a black cloud following me around!
