Assuming it's a G4 Mini (this is "G3-5 List"), it would appear your
warranty is expired already, unless you bought an extension? I
replaced mine when it was new, I didn't even consider the warranty. I
took the OEM 80 GB HD out and placed it into my laptop, then put the
old 10 GB HD from the laptop into the Mini. I booted the Mini from an
external Firewire 300 GB HD. I never used the 10 GB internal HD except
for to run utilities on external HD Systems. A 7,200 RPM external
Firewire HD is just as fast as the 5,400 RPM internal HD, and with no
internal HD running I was able to over-clock the Mini without any heat
issues whatsoever. Why not boot an external HD using a standard size
7,200 rpm HD? It's a LOT cheaper per GB with no performance hit.
