I don't know, the older DVD units had trouble with some types of discs, and I think your model may have been "DVD-R" only, no "DVD+R". You should try upgrading the firmware to the last version. You may need a PC to flash? Finding firmware for these 5+ year old drives is getting hard, the sites are changing and dropping all the old stuff. You'll likely need to use the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine to find firmware.
