I did try everything:

os 9, 9.1, 9.2.1, 9.2.2, OS x 10.2, 10.4

open firmaware reset nvram and all

PRAM

unplugged without battery for two days

CUDA switch

I believe it is busted so I have ordered a replacement daughterboard
(it is for my collection, so I would like it as close to the original
as possible, so PCI cards are OK, but I would like to bring back to
life the on-board FW ports).

What are the chances it is the FW chip on the logic board to be busted
and not the daughter card? System profile says Firewire 2.2.2
regardless the daughterboard is inserted or not.

Ben
