Yes, OS X does use VM - it's Unix, afterall. Unlike Windoze, the memory management system in Unix is quite efficient... So moving the swap files to a different hard drive will improve overall system performance *ONLY* if your system is horribly memory poor in the first place. This is not the case for most users, so we rarely recommend it.
