That means the download failed to verify. (Checksums are just bits
that tell you whether the current byte (or some other unit?) should
add up to an even or odd number as a test of the accuracy of the
download.)
I find that very often the .dmg will mount just fine and function
just fine if you merely skip the verify step--especially since you've
tried it several times.
