If the owner is not very technical, chances are it was likely Claris Works that was used. - AppleWorks should open them, I believe. Possibly they were written an earlier version of Word, but that was way pricey for a non-tech home user back then. Other WP programs were more likely to be used mainly by a techie/enthusiast/experienced user. If all else fails, I'm happy for you to put them in a folder, zip it & email it to me, and I'll try to open them & send them back in a format to suit you. I have several WP packages (Inc Appleworks 6) so I am hopeful.
