You can do any of Disk Utility's operations on either of the other HDs. Now, if you just go ahead and 'Clone' a backup of your 'normal' system to one of the other HDs, that will let you do what you are trying to do, and at the same time provide you with a 'Hot Backup'. Chuck D. Apple's are so nice about booting from ANY partition. Just remember it needs to be on a different PHYSICAL HD.
