BBS, like 'call this phone number and get on the bulletin board'  
1980's old Skool BBS or modern net-based forums?

On the modern side, PHPBB will run just fine on OS X; I'd use Xampp 
<http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html 
 > for the server side, it's a LOT easier than trying to wrangle all  
the bits you need separately. This will also not be subject to the 10- 
client connection limit in OS X client.
