I have an 2.1Ghz iSight iMac and about a year ago, I took it to the Apple Store because it wouldn't awake from Sleep or from a Restart/ Shutdown. The fans would start to blow loudly and the screen would remain black and I had to force a shutdown by holding down the power key. In order to get it to boot, I had to unplug it, wait a couple of minutes, plug it back while holding down the 'Power On' button thereby resetting the PMU. After another minute I'd start it up and all was well (until it went to Sleep or was Shutdown/Restarted).
Genius Dude at the Apple Store told me it was all about the OS and I needed to insert the install disk (Tiger) and do an 'Archive and Restore.' I did that and still had the problem. Took it back and they replaced the logic board and all has been well until about a month or so ago. This time instead of taking trips to the Apple Store, I backed it up and did an 'Archive and Restore.' Now, everything is back to normal and the questions I have for you G- Listers is: What gives? Is there some kinda maintenance that I should be doing periodically to alleviate this situation? Thanks in advance!
