Hi "Hosemonkey" (that feels odd ;-), The G-5 door operates up and down (as opposed to the later G4 like models that "flapped" out). The top portion of the door is beveled (teardrop shape), that when the drive tray hits it, compels the door to slide down, following its slotted track. Spring-loaded action pulls the door back up into closed position when the tray is retracted. Basically, the result of kinetic energy, not a self-powered solution.
