I believe, Dan, you meant to post this on G3-5-List or something?
Discussion isn't permitted on LEM Swap.

[my comments inserted, but leaving the rest untrimmed as the original
wasn't posted on this list]

Also consider reliability and other problems with Comcast's network.

a) As providers go, I doubt they're even close to two-nines of
up-time (87 hours of down-time per year).

b) If it's a coax service (not resold xDSL as they do in some areas)
then your bandwidth availability will be *severely* limited,
especially in the evening hours, due to oversubscription and poor QoS
controls.

c) Last time I checked, Comcast offered *no* DDoS protections at all,
and their telephone support people were totally clueless as to how to
even begin to escalate sucb an issue when reported.

Make a deal with a neighbor, to give you a jump-start as needed.

Does the updater provide any log, or at least yammer into system.log?

Try stripping the hardware to the bare minimum, including pulling
xtra pci cards.
