Those 387 are sitting on your ISPs Mail Server. The problem shows up  
because YOUR mail programs list of already downloaded messages is  
missing. [Already downloaded, don't download --- not downloaded yet,  
download]

Check your mail settings --- "Delete from server after download" may  
be set improperly.
