Yes and No. (See below.)

I agree with the iTunes on the machine (if the server ends up being a
Mac). I had that same thought. Let the server's iTunes share its
library with the other iTunes clients. Those would only be Macs
though. On my Windows machines, I prefer to use WinAmp. It can
automatically scan for file changes in the background at startup and/
or times intervals. I have tested sharing iTunes libraries between
Mac and PC versions of iTunes. iTunes can share its library of tracks
with another iTunes even if the files aren't local to it. Once, I did
install iTunes on a Windows XP machine just to see what it was like.
I pointed the Windows iTunes to the MP3s that were in a Windows share
on another XP machine. Worked fine. Then, I shared that iTunes
library with the network. Cranked up iTunes on an iMac G3 and saw the
Windows iTunes that was being shared out. The G3 didn't know or care
where the MP3 files actually resided. It played them just fine. I
know it was unnecessary, but it was a fun test.

Anyone else have suggestions for a good folder compare/merge program
for MP3's?

Lonnie.
