Are you using a beta version of Firefox? I don't use firefox much so I
don't see this.

That said, yeah, the console tends to have lots and lots of entries,
and 90% of them are informational in nature. Any process that does not
have a output process associated with it (a tty, Terminal window, a
error log of it's own, a window in Finder, etc) has any output dumped
to console.

The key to using console is to know what things look like when the
computer is running OK, whether or not you know what the entries (as
above) mean. Just have a feel for what is normally going on. In my
case my log is full of stuff like:

4/28/09 8:39:17 AM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[92032]
Starting standard backup
4/28/09 8:39:17 AM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[92032] Backing
up to: /Volumes/Tardis/Backups.backupdb
4/28/09 8:39:17 AM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[92032] Backing
up to: /Volumes/Tardis/Backups.backupdb
4/28/09 8:39:21 AM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[92032] No pre-
backup thinning needed: 139.6 MB requested (including padding), 27.97
GB available
4/28/09 8:39:21 AM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[92032] No pre-
backup thinning needed: 139.6 MB requested (including padding), 27.97
GB available
4/28/09 8:39:38 AM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[92032] Backup
requested due to disk attach
4/28/09 8:39:38 AM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[92032] Backup
requested due to disk attach

Just Time Machine doing it's thing.

When you have a feel for when things aren't right, then when things go
wrong, you may be able to zero in on what's going wrong.

Also, when you know there's a problem with a specific program or
device, you use the search function to find entires associated with
the program or device.

Usually not hard.
