Did the Mini see the DVR in Apple System Profiler? If it does but cannot mount disks you may need to flash the DVR firmware. There is a utility called DVRFlash to re-flash Pioneer drives. If the Mini can't even see the attached DVR you would need to put it into a Windows PC to flash it with mac firmware.
