I'm using a cheapie USB Webcam for my G5 (Kensington #67014). I think
I got it free, or perhaps $5, and that was a long time ago. It's a
little slow, I'm sure newer ones are much better. If your USB webcam
doesn't work out-of-the-box in Leopard, you can install Macam which
will enable almost any USB Webcam:

If you're really cheap and own a digital videocam, most will work as a
webcam if they have pass-thru. Older Sony's can be reprogramed to
enable pass-thru. Not many people want to setup a tripod and videocam
for video chat, but if you've already got one, it's free. I'd go the
USB webcam route. The small ones made for laptops can be stuck to a
monitor easily. One thought, my old Kensington isn't too good in low
light, so I need to illuminate myself when doing a video chat. Make
sure your webcam has good low light characteristics if you want to
look natural in standard indoor lighting. I suppose I should be
looking for a new webcam also.
