You might consider using freeware utility Monolingual to strip all the  
extra languages, keyboard input methods, and intel code. I think you  
should be able to save nearly gigabyte without substantially harming  
the System.

Another really good freeware tool for clearing out large, useless  
files is OmniDiskSweeper. It will list EVERYTHING on the HD by size so  
you can easily find whatever may be lurking in the bowels of the HD.  
Things to look for are tutorial movies for iMovie, iDVD, etc; and  
iPhoto & iDVD "themes" for books or DVD that you don't use; and large  
printer drivers for printers you don't own or normally use, in some  
cases HP or Epson drivers can be over 500MB. If you NEED to carry  
around ALL printer drivers, use the GutenPrint drivers and ditch the  
OEM bloatware for printers you don't own.
