You can put a CBE board in a PCI-X slot, last time I checked they were
sold out though.
(By the yellow dog guys).

Some of the big guys supercomputers now has a CBE on a logic board
along with 4 quadcore AMDs.

But the operating system support is another story.

BTW IBM did announce a lower power G5 (Power4) cpu just after Apple
breakup. IBMs policy always has been support the customer, as long as
they can pay the price. But nowadays their market starts above where
Apple stops.

IMHO the best strategy for Apple would be to develop their own in-
house cpu. Sun and IBM both have their own and also sell Intel.
The in-house cpu is their high end. Now that they have the Iphone in
shape, they could put the PA-Semi team they bought on it, giving us
and the world the first truly green cpu for the twenty first century
-- its already designed and built. Or whatever.

I think part of the reason that Apple cancelled OS support is that
they can't make money. Unlike Microsoft they do not keep a tight hold
on their licenses. Too many people (especially Ebay purchasers) have
upgraded MacOS in the last 5 years and never bought a license.
Therefore, another wise strategy for Apple if they want to make $$
would be to give away a basic version and make a tightly licensed
MacOS Pro -- with sort of a three way hash between Apple, Microsoft,
and Sun policies.

There's my further opinion.

Anyway I am still busily building on all the various enhancements and
packages I can onto Tiger believe it or not. I've got about 10Gig each
in macports, fink and third party stuffs. But I've got special
interests. And I still have to dual boot with Linux, either way there
are somethings that only work with one and not the other, either
direction (or at least not practically).
