Three options, none of which require a PCI card:

1) Intech's "High Cap" extension,

2) the open-source (free) extension which does the same thing, and

3) the LBA48 property strings which are semi-permanently added to the  
MacOS ROM (at least until the next "reset-nvram", which may be never).
