Apple always seem to predict what was going to be needed in the future. Look at USB, when the B&W came out people were saying that Apple took a gamble going USB only (although they did include one ADB port for use with old school keyboards and track pads). Now everything is USB. Your G5 (I'd get more RAM if I were you) should last you at least 3 more years before you'd start considering a new machine. You'll be just fine using Pro Tools with your G5.
