Look into SnapzProX by Ambrosia:
http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/
If you can see it on your screen you can capture it. Sound included.
I missed a premier of Breaking Bad and went to their web and recorded
it.
Burned a DVD and watched it on TV.
If you need to swipe content from a DVD (personal use from a DVD you
own, uh huh), SnapzProX will do that as well.
